The Uprising World Cup

The Uprising World Cup

...or the World Cup-rising, if you'd like.

The world’s greatest climbers compete across Bouldering, Lead, and Speed – you’ve seen them on your screens – and now you’ve finally got the chance to do it too. Presenting, the inaugural Uprising World Cup! Where you can battle it out in not just bouldering, but ALL THREE climbing disciplines for almost as much glory as an IFSC World Cup.

It’s IFSC World Climbing series time again, and we thought why just watch the world cup when we can hold one ourselves? Join us for a one-night-only event on Friday 19th June in the ultimate test of climbing versatility. But wait, you say, isn’t Uprising a bouldering-only gym..? Guess you’re going to have to come along on the night and find out 😉

Compete as a team of three or individually in the three disciplines:

  • Bouldering – a section of Comp-boulders styled like World Cup problems!
  • Lead – get your pump on in the Comp Overhang! (Ropes, harnesses and quickdraws not required)
  • Speed – zoom up and down the Boat in a race against the clock!

Entry is free and difficulty levels will be mixed across all three disciplines, so there is something for everyone. Whether you’re here to compete for glory, wear a questionable team costume, or simply heckle your mates from the sidelines, the Uprising World Cup is all about climbing, teamwork, and a healthy amount of chaos. We’ll have the music pumping and $20 pizza + pint deals over in the cafe so you can refuel post-climb, and heaps of prizes on the night courtesy of our amazing sponsors Quantum, Mountain Adventure, and Karma drinks!

Deets below for the hard-outs.

DISCIPLINES

Speed

Sprint over to the Boat for the Speed climb – see how fast you can finish the Speed route, ringing the bell at the finish to stop the clock! You must ring the bell in control, so no dynos directly to the top hold/bell.

Lead

There will be three “lead-style” boulders with checkpoints along the way worth 5, 10, 15, 20, or 25 points for a top! Holds must be controlled to count, with your score being the highest controlled hold. Be sure to rest in between attempts, as there is a 0.1 point deduction per unsuccessful attempt.

Boulders

With six competition-style boulders, this is your chance to shine! Hit the “zone” holds (controlled) to pick up 5 or 15 points, with 25 points for a successfully controlled top. As per World Cup competition rules, there is a 0.1 point deduction per unsuccessful attempt, so be sure to rest in between and brush up on your route-reading.

RANKINGS & SCORING

Each competitor will receive a paper scoresheet to keep track of attempts and results. Once finished, scan the QR code on your scoresheet to be taken to the online score submission form.

There will be separate rankings for each discipline (Speed, Lead, Boulder), split by category (Open Female, Open Male, Junior Female, Junior Male, and All Categories). Ranking points are assigned using a World Cup-style points system, e.g. 1st place Junior Male Speed = 1000 pts, 3rd place Open Female Lead = 690 pts.

A competitor’s overall Individual score is the combined total of their ranking points from each of the three disciplines, and Team scores are the combined total of all three team members’ overall scores.
