Designed, built and run by a bunch of Kiwi climbers and yoga teachers, Uprising is home to a huge bouldering gym, yoga studio and a fitness gym all under one roof. There’s even a café serving our own signature blend of locally roasted coffee, and a pro shop for apparel and gear.

Bouldering at Uprising is an indoor adventure sport activity. It’s fitness in disguise, challenging and fun for both the muscles and the mind.

Uprising is one of Australasia’s largest bouldering gyms. Climbing’s profile is exploding worldwide and one of the most popular sectors of this ‘next-generation’ sport is bouldering. Safer and simpler than traditional rock climbing, bouldering is the climbing of small rock formations (or artificial rock walls) without ropes or harnesses.

Do it solo, with mates or as a group activity with your work or sports team or even a party crowd. Bouldering is a social activity and our new facility is purpose-designed to support and encourage the growing climbing community we have here in Canterbury.

Our dedicated yoga studio is guided by over a decade’s experience and
formal training in Ashtanga Yoga practice and philosophy.

Top-of-the-range Technogym cardio gear and commercial strength and conditioning equipment complement a large range of climbing-specific training systems – circuit and campus boards, LED Moon Board, and the Southern Hemisphere’s first Lattice Board.

We’re committed to providing an amazing, sustainable coffee, food and beverage experience at Uprising.

Our signature blend of locally roasted Caffe Prima coffee is Fairtrade organic. We try to reuse and recycle wherever possible; even the building has been given a second lease on life; what was once a disused brewery is now a vibrant and positive new space.

Food is locally sourced where possible, and our Uprising blonde ale house beer is crafted by our mates at Two Thumbs Brewery.
