The observant amongst you may have noticed Blocland is looking a lot more colourful, and is now using the same numbered tag system as the rest of the gym – the routesetting team have switched things up, creating actual mini-sized bouldering problems for our littlest Uprising members!
Kids are great at bouldering. Blocland provides the perfect environment for them to give it a go, with climbs designed for smaller people in a safe area separate from our main gym.
By intentionally setting child-sized boulder problems at a broader difficulty range rather than just a spray of climbing holds, we hope to make Blocland more valuable to young climbers, coaches, and groups with different accessibility needs. There are still enough holds in there for it to remain toddler-friendly and allow free play, but the curated boulder problems provide more opportunity for learning than what you might find in a playground.
How does it work?
Just like the main gym, each boulder problem uses holds of a single colour, with matching numbered tags indicating difficulty level (higher number = harder). The two smaller tags show where to put your hands to begin the problem, and the big tag indicates the top of that climb – touch this hold with both hands to finish, or “top” the problem.
Our youngest climbers can now get an experience that feels just like the main gym, only scaled down for smaller bodies and growing confidence. Though of course, we’re not about to stifle anyone’s creativity – kids can climb however they want to get to the top, but the challenge is there for those who seek it!
Blocland has a maximum capacity of 10 children. We recommend booking a session before your visit.
Entry per child is still just $6 weekdays / $12 weekends & public holidays, including a free fluffy!
