On Saturday 21st June, Uprising Yoga will be hosting A Day of Yoga, a one-day event to mark Matariki, International Yoga Day, and Winter Solstice! What to expect? It’s all in the name – from morning to evening, there will be various yoga sessions all happening in the studio here, with breaks for complimentary chai and kai! Come for the full day, a single session, or simply drop in for chai & kai – this is your space to gather and ground.
FULL SCHEDULE:
- 7:00 – 9:00am – Group Practice
- Work on your own personal practice in a warm, distraction-free space! We will have a supervisor there to open and close up while you do your thing – whether that be asana, pranayama, or meditation practices.
- 9:15 – 11:00am – Ashtanga Expanded with Brayde
- A longer-format class that gives us the time we don’t usually have! This extended session follows our usual Ashtanga rhythm, offering the rare chance to journey deeper into the Primary Series without rushing. Expect a steady, breath-led flow with space to explore a fuller sequence. Suitable for seasoned or fresh Ashtangis!
- 11:15 – 12:15pm – BREAK for Chai & Kai
- Gather and restore in the comfort of sangha, community. Savor warming homemade chai, nourishing kai, and easy kōrero with fellow yogis. Whether you’re fresh from practice or dropping in, this is your space to relax, recharge, and connect.
- 12:30 – 2:30pm – 108 Sun Salutations with Femke
- A moving meditation to honour the Winter Solstice and the surya, the light, within. In yogic tradition, the number 108 holds spiritual significance. It represents the idea of being whole, connected, and in harmony with the world around us. Join Femke in this powerful ritual of 108 sun salutations, practiced in community and presence. Whether you’re moving through 9, 27, 54, or all 108, you’re invited to flow at your own pace, pause when needed, and feel the energy build as breath and movement synchronise.
- 3:00 – 4:00pm – Pranayama & Yoga Nidra with Amaya
- Sink into subtler states of awareness with a balanced blend of calming and revitalising pranayama (yogic breathwork). Amaya will guide you through practices to steady and awaken the nervous system, followed by Yoga Nidra – a deeply restful, meditative journey through the inner landscape. A nourishing space to reset, restore, and reconnect.
- 4:15 – 5:15pm – BREAK for Chai & Kai
- Gather and restore in the comfort of sangha, community. Savor warming homemade chai, nourishing kai, and easy kōrero with fellow yogis. Whether you’re fresh from practice or dropping in, this is your space to relax, recharge, and connect.
- 6:00 – 7:15pm – Kirtan with Lucy & Cindy
- Kirtan is a fun and powerful form of meditation, it includes the hearing and chanting of transcendental sounds or mantras. By meditating on these beautiful transcendental sounds we can free the heart and mind of the stress and anxieties of daily life and begin to taste the inner happiness that we are always searching for.
This special event is FREE for Uprising members, with the exception of Kirtan, where we simply ask that you make a koha to Conservation Volunteers NZ.
