NiBS 2025

NiBS 2025

Catch the Christchurch round of the National Indoor Bouldering Series, here at Uprising this weekend! Here's all the info you need to know...

What is NiBS?

The NZAC National Indoor Bouldering Series (NiBS) comps are the benchmark for NZ social bouldering events. Emphasis on social – NiBS is all about having fun and giving it a go! Whether it’s your first climbing competition or you’re a seasoned pro, you’ll find challenges suited to your skill and confidence level, all within a friendly and supportive atmosphere.

There are four events in the series this year taking place in Dunedin, Christchurch, Auckland, and Wellington. Resistance Climbing in Dunedin kicked things off a few weeks ago, and the second event will be here at Uprising on Saturday 14th June (Opens) & Sunday 15th June (Youth). Participants can choose from one of four main rounds on Saturday, or the Youth round on Sunday morning, with the top 6 female and top 6 male entrants from Saturday progressing to the finals on Saturday night!

Cool, how do I join in?

Head over to the NiBS website for all the deets and to sign up. NiBS events almost always sell out and capacity is strictly limited, so best to get in there ASAP!

If you’re still not sure about it but you’d like to come cheer on your mates, spectators are always welcome! You’ll definitely want to be there from 7:30pm on Saturday night to watch NZ’s strongest and most talented boulderers battle it out in the Finals – pizzas, beers, and tunes will be cranking, and we guarantee you’ll have an epic time.

Pre-NiBS Yoga Warmups

Need to loosen up before your round? We all know the importance of stretching and warming up our bodies before climbing! Uprising Yoga teachers are offering free 30-minute warmup yoga flows before each of the four rounds! These are strictly first come, first served, and only for NiBS participants:

Round 1 (9:30am): 8:45 – 9:15 am
Round 2 (12:00pm): 11:15 – 11:45am
Round 3 (2:30pm): 1:45 – 2:15pm
Round 4 (5:00pm): 4:15 – 4:45pm

NiBS Disruptions

To get the gym ready for the weekend, there will of course be some disruption to normal operations as our route setting team work their magic….

Tuesday 10 June: some walls will be closed in the evening
Wednesday 11 & Thursday 12 June: limited bouldering areas open, no bouldering classes, but yoga classes run as per normal
Friday 13 June: CLOSED for route setting (entire facility including yoga)

On Saturday 14th June, Uprising will be open only to competitors and spectators for the main competition event. Please note that Blocland will be closed that day.

On Sunday 15th June, we will host the youth round of the competition. The facility will be open only to competitors and spectators until 12pm. From 12:00 pm – 8:00 pm we will be open for everyone to come down and try main round boulder problems! Please note we are also running a youth workshop that day, so the open finals problems will be unavailable until at least 2:00 pm.

Lastly, a huge thank you to our NiBS 2025 Sponsors –  Climb Craft, Bivouac Outdoor, La Sportiva, & The North Face!
