This Tuesday evening course will run from 3 August until 7 September, every Tuesday from 7:15pm – 8:45pm.
One of the things we value highly at Uprising Yoga is encouraging our sangha (community) to find ways to bring the practices of yoga more into their lives. The Your Pace course is a key part of this, where you’re supported to develop some of your own practice to suit your individual needs. You can think of it a bit like having a 1-to-1 session, but within a group environment.
Participants have commented that they really value these classes for the personalised attention they receive and for the space they get to follow their natural breath and tempo.
Classes also include a discussion about yoga’s guiding principles, and each round of the course will delve into a specific theme, so you can broaden your yoga knowledge and use that understanding to inform your practice.
Andrew says:
“These gatherings are very dear to me. I can’t really put a finger on why. There is something about gathering together with this feeling of wanting to learn in a completely organic way; to put your own needs first, and to learn from others, or indeed, for others to learn from you; to open our mind to the types of inquiries and questions that yoga can offer; to simply be in the room together without expectation to perform in a certain way; to inhabit a space that has the sole purpose of existing for your own nourishment and support; an environment where all lines of questioning, profound or not, can be asked in confidence; a place where you can tackle something head-on you may have been avoiding; a space where you can comfortably ‘disappear’ for a while. Anything goes really, but most importantly, you are the one who drives the purpose of the gathering.
If you haven’t been to a Your Pace class before and you are considering coming along, I will say this: If you are a complete beginner, this is perfect. As long as you don’t mind learning organically (responding to your own progress and needs) then this could be just the thing for you. If you’ve been attending led classes for some time but haven’t done something like a Your Pace class before, just come along to see if you like it. Maybe do a drop-in.
You may have noticed the session is two hours long. That seems like a long time! Well, this is because you have complete freedom to turn up and leave at any time during those two hours. If you can only spare an hour and need to leave early—no problem. Conversely, if you want to stay for the whole time, please do that.
Each session starts with a discussion on a certain topic that lasts for 30-45 minutes. The intent of these chats is to spend focussed time diving into something specific that might be helpful in understanding for your own practice better.
This time around, the conversation topic will be regarding the idea of antarayas, as described by Patanjali in The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali. Antarayas are mostly understood as obstacles or challenges that one might expect to face, at one time or another, when practising yoga.”
Your Pace is free for Uprising Unlimited Members, or $100 early-bird rate until 26 July. $120 thereafter.
